Each status is WilmU's view of whether a program's coursework fits the license Arizona would grant at the end. It is not a map of where clinical hours may happen, and an open status should never be read as a quiet yes or a quiet no.
The BSN to DNP runs the same FNP or PMHNP practicums as the MSN and certificate routes, yet its Arizona status differs, so ask the two chairs who advise BSN to DNP students jointly, one for the NP programs and one for the DNP. Our licensure by state page decodes the whole table.
Clinicals in Arizona start with Board approval
Arizona's State Board of Nursing oversees APRN programs, and the Board's advisory opinion for schools based elsewhere is direct: the program seeks Board approval first, and no student starts clinical work in Arizona until it has that approval. A faster review is open to an APRN track whose home-state board has already approved it, as long as the school's accreditation at the national level is current and unblemished.
Approval is not a one-time event. The school keeps licensure records for everyone involved, from its director and faculty to each preceptor and student, logs where every student trains, and answers the Board's yearly survey and any audit. Whether WilmU holds Arizona approval for your track belongs on your list for WilmU's Online Learning office before a search begins.
Preceptor terms are specific as well. An APRN who precepts holds Arizona APRN certification plus an unrestricted RN license from Arizona or a compact state, while a physician who precepts needs an unencumbered Arizona medical license. AANP places Arizona in its full practice category.

Most Arizonans live around Phoenix, a metro that has passed five million residents, or Tucson, at roughly 1.07 million. The next metros, around Prescott and Lake Havasu City, are a fraction of that size.
The big systems include Banner Health, headquartered in Phoenix with its own academic medical centers, along with HonorHealth, Mayo Clinic's Arizona campus, Phoenix Children's and, down in Tucson, TMC Health. Arizona's statutory grant for unpaid preceptors of graduate nursing students appears unfunded for now; the questions below explain why.
Your RN license for Arizona clinicals
WilmU's NP pages call for registered nurse licensure in whichever state hosts the clinical, and Arizona's Board states its own version: an APRN student of an out-of-state program trains there on a clear Arizona or multistate RN license. The APRN Compact is a separate agreement. Arizona has not adopted it, and it is not yet running anywhere, so practicing as an NP in Arizona after graduation means applying to the Arizona Board for APRN certification.

Does WilmU's MSN-FNP work for an Arizona resident?
WilmU's licensure table marks the MSN-FNP Meets for Arizona, as it does the FNP and PMHNP Graduate Certificates; the table itself says nothing about admission. Before clinicals, Arizona's Board expects APRN programs from other states to hold its approval, so ask WilmU's Online Learning office how that applies to your track.
Is WilmU's BSN to DNP an option for Arizona residents?
For Arizona, WilmU's BSN to DNP row still reads Not Determined Yet. That is an open item, not a refusal and not a green light. Put it to the Online Learning office and to both chairs who advise BSN to DNP students before you apply.
Does Arizona still pay for its preceptor grant?
Arizona's preceptor grant for graduate nursing education, APRN students included and rural primary care first, is written into statute and was run by the state health department through large professional nonprofits. The legislature's budget staff show no appropriation for it in fiscal 2026 or fiscal 2027, so plan any Arizona preceptorship as if the grant were unavailable.
What nursing license does an Arizona clinical require?
An RN license that is clear of restrictions, issued either by Arizona or as a multistate license by another compact state. That satisfies the Board's condition for APRN students of programs based elsewhere, and it lines up with WilmU's own license condition for NP clinicals.
