Clinical credentialing clearance is the gate Wilmington University puts in front of its clinical courses. At its core sit the background check and drug screen required by the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and WilmU's catalog lists clearance or up-to-date credentialing as a prerequisite for MSN 7752, the Nursing Leadership Graduate Certificates, GRN 8121 and GRN 9001. What WilmU means by clearance
WilmU uses three close variations of one idea. The Nursing Leadership Graduate Certificate page says "clinical credentialing clearance" is mandatory, the MSN 7752 catalog entry calls it clinical clearance, and the DNP course entries ask for completed and up-to-date credentialing. Read together, they describe a single status: the College has everything it needs from you before clinical work begins.
The part shared by all CONHS students, from RN to BSN through the DNP, is a background check plus a drug screen, handled by a designated credentialing system whose vendor WilmU's public pages leave unnamed. Nurse practitioner students also meet conditions the MSN-FNP curriculum page sets out: current CPR certification and an RN license that reaches the practicum's state, while the University holds group professional liability insurance for NP students. WilmU's 2026-27 catalog and program pages attach clearance to specific courses, and the wording differs in ways that change your timing. The table sets them side by side.

Two phrases deserve a second look. "Before registering" on the certificate page moves the deadline up to registration, which can come months before the first class meets. "Up-to-date" in the DNP entries suggests that a result finished long ago may not be enough by itself, so ask how long WilmU treats a result as current.
Timing it against the 2026-27 calendar
Registration for Fall 2026 opened on May 4; Spring 2027 registration opens October 19, and Summer 2027's on March 1. Those terms begin on August 31, January 11 and May 10 respectively. For a Leadership certificate student who registers the week registration opens, clearance tied to registration comes due about four months before a fall clinical course begins.
DNP students meet GRN 8121 and GRN 9001 as 15-week semester courses, so a Spring 2027 start means January 11. Because the catalog asks for credentialing that is up to date, plan the check close enough to that date that it is still current, and far enough ahead that a flagged result has time to be reviewed.
For NP practicums the program handbook sets the point in the course progression, and WilmU does not publish whether its practicums run in 7-week blocks or full semesters. Our WilmU calendar page sets out each 2026-27 block and semester, with drop/add and withdrawal cutoffs.
WilmU clearance and a health system's intake are separate
Clearing WilmU's requirements satisfies the College. A hospital or practice may still run its own onboarding before your first shift, and several Delaware health systems describe theirs in detail on their own pages.
Beebe Healthcare's page has NP and PA students complete onboarding in Clinician Nexus, covering fit testing, vaccination records, drug and background screening, and a look-up in Delaware's Adult and Child Protection Registry. ChristianaCare and Bayhealth also name Clinician Nexus for student intake, and TidalHealth wants its preceptorship request form no later than 90 days ahead of the rotation. The practical result is two sets of paperwork on two clocks. WilmU's clearance follows the program handbook. The site's intake follows the site's own timeline, which can run longer than the College's.
Questions to settle with your program
WilmU's public pages stop short of several details that decide how smoothly clearance goes. Check the program handbook first. Then put the rest in writing to your program's leaders: the DNP Program Chair for doctoral students, the NP Program Chair or your track's Assistant Chair for NP students, and the Chair for MSN Leadership for Educator and certificate students.

Questions WilmU students ask
Is clinical credentialing clearance the same thing as WilmU's background check?
Not quite. The background check and drug screen are its core for every College of Nursing and Health Sciences student, but clearance is the broader status the catalog looks for before a clinical course. For NP students the curriculum page adds a current CPR card and RN licensure matching wherever the practicum takes place.
Does WilmU name the company behind its credentialing system?
No public WilmU page names it. The College's policy refers only to a designated credentialing system for background checks and drug screens. The program handbook and your program leaders are the places to get access details, and RN to BSN students find their credentialing instructions on the BSN student Canvas site.
Do DNP Advanced Practice students need clearance if they already practice as APRNs?
As the catalog reads, yes. GRN 9001, the first DNP Project course, names credentialing that is finished and current among its prerequisites, and every DNP concentration takes that course. An APRN license and national board certification are admission requirements for the Advanced Practice concentration; the credentialing prerequisite is listed separately.
What happens if my clearance is still pending when the clinical course starts?
Because WilmU's catalog lists clearance as a prerequisite, a pending status can cost you the seat. Talk to your program chair before drop/add closes, which for Fall 2026 is September 8 for both the 15-week semester and Block 1. The policy adds that refusing the check, or a finding left unresolved after review, closes clinical courses.
Can Leadership certificate students register first and finish clearance later?
WilmU's Nursing Leadership Graduate Certificate page puts clearance before registration for a clinical course, so clearance comes first. If you intend to register when registration opens, such as October 19 for Spring 2027, finish the College's check before that date or ask the Chair for MSN Leadership how the timing works for you.
