Two concentrations, one project sequence

WilmU's DNP curriculum page builds the program from a shared core, a concentration and three project courses. The concentration you pick decides your entry conditions, your credit total and how many practice hours you complete before graduation.

Both concentrations graduate under a single catalog test: a finished, presented DNP Project and a running total of 1,000 practice hours earned after the bachelor's degree. The overview's 1,500 figure for advanced practice nurses clashes with the 500 printed in three other WilmU places, so settle the number that governs your cohort with the DNP Program Chair. Start terms, deadlines and program length

WilmU opens DNP cohorts three times a year, and its pages give more than one figure for length and for the time limit.

• Starts: Spring, Summer and Fall.
• Deadlines: October 1 for Spring, March 1 for Summer and June 15 for Fall, or until the cohort fills. The packet also gives June 1st for Fall in one place.
• Length: 25 months (6 semesters, part time) on the curriculum page, 28 months on the overview and 20 to 28 months in the packet.
• Time limit: five years on the curriculum page; the packet FAQ mentions seven years next to a five-year policy.
• Pace: 7-week blocks for the core; for the project, a single course per term, opening with a 15-week semester and continuing in 7-week blocks.

For a Spring 2027 start, the October 1 deadline is only days away; Summer 2027 applicants have until March 1. WilmU's term dates, blocks and reading weeks are laid out on the academic calendar page.

The preceptor behind every DNP route

WilmU's curriculum page describes DNP students working in close partnership with an experiential engagement preceptor who is doctorally prepared. That single requirement reaches across both concentrations and every combined option, and it is the one part of the doctorate that depends on someone outside WilmU's online classroom.

Three published details shape that choice. Your project most commonly takes place where you work, so a doctorally prepared leader already there is a natural first conversation. GRN 9001 is where WilmU's Human Subjects Committee signs off on the project plan, so bring the preceptor in while that plan is still a draft. And neither GRN 8121 nor GRN 9001 opens to you until your credentialing is finished and current.

Standards to know before you apply

• Grades of B or higher across all DNP coursework. Falling below B allows one retake of that course, with a program-wide cap of two repeated courses, tighter than the four attempts WilmU permits elsewhere.
• A cumulative 3.0 GPA to graduate, as in every WilmU graduate program.
• CCNE accreditation covers WilmU's DNP. No dates appear on the accreditation page; the undated packet reports a five-year CCNE term, described there as the longest a new program could receive.
• On WilmU's State Licensures by Program table, the DNP row reads Meets Educational Licensing Requirements in 49 jurisdictions, with Idaho and Wyoming left at Not Determined Yet.

These rules shape preceptor planning as well. A project course graded below B means a retake, and because the project courses run in sequence under continuous enrollment, one retake moves every later course, and your preceptor's commitment, back with it.
