Finding an NP preceptor in Delaware: what the health systems publish

Four systems, four different starting points

WilmU's public pages describe the practicum courses and the credentialing that comes before them. Delaware's hospitals describe the other half: how a nursing student from any program gets through their doors. Each system below writes its student pages for all schools, not for WilmU in particular.

Three of the four name the same onboarding platform, Clinician Nexus. What differs is the first step: the school's agreement at one system, a clinician's yes at another, a request form filed 90 days ahead at a third. Getting that order right matters most when your practicum dates are fixed by WilmU's calendar.

Alongside all of this run two WilmU-side pieces: the clinical credentialing clearance WilmU lists as complete before clinical courses, and the question of affiliation agreements.

Bayhealth: a preceptor's yes, then the school's form

Bayhealth, with hospitals in Dover and Milford, lists NP and DNP students as eligible for one-to-one rotations in which a Bayhealth preceptor accepts the student. After that, the school coordinator submits a Student by Instructor (SBI) form, and clearance runs through Clinician Nexus. A school that is new to Clinician Nexus names a point person, and Bayhealth sends that person an agreement inside the platform to confirm the affiliation.

Bayhealth's page also states that NP students must find their own preceptors. That sentence is Bayhealth's intake rule for students of every program that rotates through Bayhealth, and it says nothing about how Wilmington University handles practicums. WilmU's public pages are silent on that question, so the program handbook and your NP Program Chair are where to confirm how it works for your track.

TidalHealth: 90 days and no cold calls

TidalHealth, based in Salisbury, Maryland, with TidalHealth Nanticoke in its network, handles NP, PA and CRNA preceptorships through a request form filed at least 90 days before the start date. Acceptance depends on capacity, TidalHealth itself locates the provider, and its page asks students not to contact providers directly.

That makes TidalHealth the system where the calendar decides the most. If a practicum ran from the first day of the Spring 2027 semester on January 11, a 90-day request would be due by about October 13, 2026. A Salisbury clinical also sits in Maryland, so WilmU's condition of RN licensure for the state of the clinical applies there.
