WilmU nursing students in Maine: licensure, practice and clinicals
Every nursing program on Wilmington University's licensure chart, the State Licensures by Program page, is Meets for Maine. Maine's Board of Nursing has published nothing specific about programs from other states placing students in Maine, so a clinical plan here turns on three things: your RN license, how well your preceptor fits, and the distances between Maine's few metros.

Maine's line on WilmU's table
For Maine, each of WilmU's seven nursing rows says Meets Educational Licensing Requirements. That is WilmU's view that the education supports a Maine license; it is not clearance for any Maine site, and the page is undated.

Maine's rules for visiting programs
The Board's education rule, Chapter 7, is about approving prelicensure programs based in Maine. Visiting programs that place students at Maine clinical sites get no mention there, and none of the Board's education pages links to guidance for them. The Nurse Practice Act's student exemption points elsewhere too: it is written for students of board-approved programs heading toward initial licensure, not for graduate NP students who already hold RN licenses.

Full practice after 24 months, and your preceptor
Maine is a full practice state in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners' terms, once an NP has spent 24 months or more under a supervising NP or physician, or working for a hospital or clinic with a physician medical director. Seasoned Maine NPs practice independently, which makes them natural candidates.
The Delaware Board's test for APRN program preceptors is a license in a comparable focus, active and unencumbered, in the state where precepting happens: for a Maine site, a Maine APRN, physician, PA or pharmacist license. Portland, Bangor and Lewiston-Auburn
Maine's metros are small by East Coast standards. Portland-South Portland has about 578,000 residents, Bangor's metro about 158,000, and Lewiston-Auburn, the smallest of the three, near 116,000. The main health systems are Northern Light Health, MaineHealth, MaineGeneral Health and Central Maine Healthcare.
Each makes its own decisions about students from other programs, so treat them as landmarks, not hosts. Beyond the metros, driving time shapes a practicum as much as fit does; count the miles to a site before you count on it.
Licensing for Maine clinicals
Maine's implementation date for the current compact is January 19, 2018. Current CPR plus RN licensure in the state hosting the clinical is WilmU's requirement, so in Maine you train on a Maine license or on a multistate license whose home state is in the compact. Maine has no APRN Compact law, so the advanced practice license after graduation comes straight from Maine's Board. Renewal timing is covered in the RN license guide.

Can I take WilmU's online DNP while working in Maine?
The DNP reads Meets for Maine on WilmU's table. Your DNP work runs with a doctorally prepared experiential engagement preceptor, and since WilmU says DNP Projects happen most often in the student's own workplace, your Maine employer may well host yours. The DNP Program Chair can confirm the plan, and the DNP overview explains the concentrations.
Does Maine's Board approve out-of-state NP programs for clinicals?
Chapter 7 concerns Maine-based prelicensure programs only, and it is silent on programs from other states using Maine sites; the Board has published no other guidance on the point. Rules can change, so check the current position with WilmU's Online Learning office before your first Maine practicum.
When can a Maine NP practice without supervision?
Two years (24 months) of supervised practice with a physician or NP, or a job at a hospital or clinic whose medical director is a physician, opens full practice to a Maine NP. Newer NPs may still be inside that window. For WilmU, the tests are the license (active, unencumbered, comparable in focus) and approval by WilmU faculty.
Does WilmU's RN to BSN meet Maine's requirements?
