Four Wilmington University nursing programs read Not Determined Yet for New York on WilmU's State Licensures by Program table: the MSN-FNP and the two NP Graduate Certificates (FNP and PMHNP), plus the BSN to DNP. WilmU's baccalaureate, leadership and doctoral programs (RN to BSN, MSN Leadership, DNP) meet New York's educational licensing requirements. An undetermined row leaves the question unanswered rather than closed, and it speaks to licensure preparation, not to where clinicals happen. New York's registration rule for clinical rotations
Nursing licensure in New York belongs to NYSED, the State Education Department, and its Office of the Professions takes a firm line on programs from elsewhere. No out-of-state or online nursing program gets clinical rotations in New York until NYSED registration or approval is in hand, with federal military and VA facilities set apart. NP students face a narrower test: NYSED looks for registration of the NP education program itself.
NYSED's NP page raises the stakes, saying rotations outside a registered program "could also be illegal." Its college evaluation staff add a second layer: placing a student in a licensed profession's clinical setting makes a school physically present in New York, which the Office of the Professions has to clear beforehand, by approval or exemption, SARA or no SARA.
So one question outranks the rest before any New York search: are WilmU's NP programs registered with NYSED? Take it to WilmU's Online Learning office; NYSED's Office of the Professions will also confirm a named program's status.
Practice rules and where NP students look
AANP rates New York full practice, with a transition: an NP still short of 3,600 practice hours works under a collaborating physician, with a written agreement and protocols.
The downstate metro that includes New York City holds about thirteen million of the state's residents, and Buffalo, Rochester and the Albany area follow well behind. Large systems include NYC Health + Hospitals, Northwell Health, Mount Sinai Health System and NewYork-Presbyterian, with UR Medicine anchoring Rochester. Licensing: New York keeps its own
New York is not in the Nurse Licensure Compact and has no legislation moving to change that. NYSED hands nurses from other states a checklist that leads to a New York license, so a multistate license carries nothing there. Can I do WilmU FNP clinicals in New York?
Two checks come before any search. WilmU's table shows the MSN-FNP as Not Determined Yet for New York, and NYSED expects an out-of-state NP program to be registered in its own right before students rotate there, federal VA and military sites aside. Raise both with the NP Program Chair and with WilmU's state authorization contacts in Online Learning.
Does a compact RN license work for New York clinicals?
No. The Nurse Licensure Compact does not include New York, and NYSED's answer for nurses licensed in other states is a checklist toward a New York license. WilmU's own NP rule follows the site's state, so allow time to get licensed in New York before a rotation there.
Does the WilmU DNP meet New York's requirements?
It does, according to WilmU's table. The BSN to DNP is the doctoral route still marked Not Determined Yet. New York regards a clinical placement as a school's presence in the state, needing NYSED's approval or exemption, so DNP students planning practice hours there should bring it up with the DNP Program Chair before the first practice course.
