A preceptor search can start from a specialty and a ZIP code. Ours start from a WilmU course number. GRN 7121 and GRN 7221 both carry 175 hours, yet one calls for a family practice clinician who sees patients across the lifespan and the other for a psychiatric mental health clinician, and each sits at a set point in WilmU's sequence. Focusing on one university's students means those details are familiar before your first message arrives.

Who we work with
WilmU's online nurse practitioner students come first: the MSN-FNP, the FNP and PMHNP Graduate Certificates and both BSN to DNP tracks, each with four practicums and 750 clinical hours. For DNP students in the Advanced Practice and Leadership concentrations, we locate the doctorally prepared preceptor WilmU calls for, and for MSN Leadership students in the Educator concentration, a mentor for the 32 hours of MSN 7752.
RN to BSN students are welcome too. WilmU describes its community learning experiences as ones where you "volunteer at a site of your choosing," and we help find a community-based setting that suits NUR 430. Clinicians thinking about precepting have a page of their own.
Where our students live
WilmU teaches in New Castle, at Brandywine in Wilmington and in Dover, plus five New Jersey affiliate locations and one on Dover Air Force Base, and its online students are spread far beyond all of them. Our searches cover Delaware's three counties, the neighboring states of Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey, and every state listed on WilmU's State Licensures by Program table.
Location changes the rules. WilmU ties clinicals to RN licensure in whichever state the clinical happens, and each state's board has its own view of who may precept. Our state guides gather those rules one state at a time.
The standards we keep
- Everything we prepare is shaped for review by WilmU's faculty, whose decision on each preceptor and site is the one that counts.
- Health systems' own processes are followed as written, from ChristianaCare's agreement question to TidalHealth's request form.
- Where WilmU publishes two figures, such as 500 or 1,500 DNP hours for APRNs, both appear, with the program chair named as the person to confirm.
- Every timeline we give is built from WilmU's academic calendar and each site's published lead times.

How our guides are written
Our guides draw on Wilmington University's catalog and curriculum pages, the College's policies, the Delaware Code and the Board of Nursing's regulations, and the student pages health systems publish about themselves. Sources sit at the foot of each guide, next to the date of its latest check.
