What WilmU's table says about Mississippi
A Meets entry is WilmU's view that the program's education can lead to licensure in Mississippi. It settles a licensing question, says nothing about which clinics you may use, and carries no update date. Our guide to the licensure table walks through all three statuses.

Why IHL matters for a Mississippi practicum
Mississippi hands degree-level nursing education to IHL, and IHL's reach covers graduate programs based in Delaware as much as those at home. The Board of Nursing's education role is practical nursing. IHL's stated view: a visiting program that offers clinical experiences in the state keeps Mississippi's standards.
For IHL, a GRN 7121 or GRN 7221 rotation inside Mississippi amounts to physical presence, and physical presence means WilmU as a program is reviewed by IHL's nursing education staff. IHL allows up to three months for it, and its August 2024 manual tells programs governed from another state to file at least four months out. A second condition, SARA membership or MCCA authorization, is where WilmU's NC-SARA status comes in.
That review belongs to the university, not to you. What you can do is ask WilmU's Online Learning office about it early, well before a Mississippi clinician blocks out a semester.
Collaborative practice and who can precept
AANP lists Mississippi under reduced practice. Each NP there practices in a collaborative arrangement, approved by the board, with a physician or a dentist who holds a Mississippi license, so your NP preceptor's own practice has a named collaborator behind it.
The preceptor standard WilmU students carry comes from Delaware's Board: a clinician whose APRN, PA, pharmacist or physician license is active and unencumbered, in a practice focus close to the course. IHL sets a floor for students as well. Its standards expect APRN clinical students to be RN-licensed, with nothing against the license, in whichever state hosts the rotation, and a Delaware-based program sending students to Jackson is measured the same way.
Where NP students look in Mississippi
Forrest Health, Singing River Health System, UMMC and North Mississippi Health Services are four of the large names. The fifth is Baptist Memorial Health Care, a Memphis company that keeps Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson among its hospitals. Read each system's student page before counting on it.
The 2025 Census estimates give greater Jackson about 610,000 people, Gulfport-Biloxi about 431,000 and the Hattiesburg metro about 158,000. Roughly 278,000 more Mississippians sit inside the Memphis metro, and a clinic a few miles across the Tennessee line would move your WilmU hours into a different licensing state.
Licensing in Mississippi, and how we help

Its Board lets a nurse whose declared home state is a compact member work in Mississippi while in good standing, without a second Mississippi license. Can I do WilmU FNP clinicals in Mississippi?
On WilmU's table the MSN-FNP row and the post-master's FNP row both read Meets for Mississippi, and WilmU asks for RN licensure wherever the clinical happens. IHL looks at a visiting program before its first Mississippi rotation, so check with WilmU's Online Learning office that its IHL review is settled before a clinician commits.
Which Mississippi agency reviews a program like WilmU's before clinicals?
IHL does, through nursing education staff who review visiting programs. Mississippi's Board of Nursing handles licenses and practical nursing programs. IHL's review can take as long as three months, and programs run from other states are told to apply four or more months ahead.
Can my WilmU DNP project happen at a Mississippi employer?
Mississippi's DNP entry reads Meets, and WilmU notes that projects usually take place at the student's own job, with a preceptor who holds a doctorate. Since IHL treats rotations in the state as physical presence, ask the DNP Program Chair and the Online Learning office how that plays out for project hours at a Mississippi job.
Does my multistate RN license cover a Mississippi clinical?
Mississippi honors compact licenses from nurses based in other member states. IHL expects APRN clinical students to be licensed as RNs, without encumbrance, where the rotation sits, and WilmU asks for licensure there too. Confirm with WilmU which license it wants on record before your Mississippi hours begin.
