WilmU Nursing Leadership Graduate Certificates and their clinical component
Wilmington University's Nursing Leadership Graduate Certificates are 15 credits per concentration, and WilmU says each concentration has a clinical component. Only the Educator certificate puts a number on it, the 32 hours of MSN 7752. What the certificates are
A WilmU Nursing Leadership Graduate Certificate is a focused 15-credit run of courses in one leadership concentration, taken alone or paired with the DNP. The certificate page does not state a delivery format, so check the current offering with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences before you plan around classroom or online sessions.
The rule that shapes every certificate student's calendar is short: clinical credentialing clearance is mandatory before registering for a clinical course. That is earlier than the MSN's wording, which ties clearance to the course start. On the certificate side, an unfinished background check or drug screen can stop registration itself.
WilmU's combined certificate and DNP pages name four leadership certificates by title: Nurse Educator, Nurse Executive, Public Health and Legal Nurse Consultant. The certificate curriculum page is the place to confirm the full current list.
Where WilmU's certificate page disagrees with itself
The certificate curriculum page has three internal conflicts worth knowing before you plan. We present them as WilmU publishes them rather than picking a side.
Three conflicts on the same page
- Number of concentrations: the page says six concentrations, including trauma and resilience, but lists five.
- Clinical component: the page says every concentration has one, but only the Educator concentration's
MSN 7752states clinical hours (32). - Educator final course: the Educator concentration lists both
MSN 8901andMSN 8900as its final course.
Each conflict changes something practical: whether a concentration you want is still offered, how many clinical hours you owe, and which course closes your certificate. The Educator certificate and its 32 hours
The Educator certificate is the one with a clinical course WilmU fully describes: MSN 7752 Clinical Teaching and Evaluation, 3 credits, 32 clinical hours with an approved mentor. For certificate students the difference is usually context. You may already teach, precept new graduates or work in staff development, and you may want the mentor inside your own organization. WilmU does not publish a rule on mentors who are also your supervisor or coworker, so raise it with your course faculty before you approach anyone.
Planning a clinical component with no stated hours
If you are in a concentration other than Educator, the certificate page tells you there is a clinical component but not its size, setting or course. Treat that as an open item to resolve in your first block, not the block before the clinical course.
The sequence below keeps you ahead of the registration gate. It works for any concentration, and it takes most of the guesswork out of a page that leaves details to the program handbook.
- Confirm the clinical pieceAsk the Assistant Chair which course carries your concentration's clinical component, how many hours it needs and what kind of setting fits it.
- Start credentialing earlyFinish the College's screening in its designated system when the handbook calls for it; registration waits on clearance.
- Shortlist mentors or sitesMatch the setting to the concentration: a legal, executive, public health or education setting, each with a named contact and a current license on file.
- Send details to facultyGive your course faculty the mentor's name, credentials and setting early. Faculty decide on every mentor and site.
- Register and scheduleOnce clearance is complete and the mentor is confirmed, register and map the hours into the block.
Certificates combined with the DNP
WilmU pairs all four of those certificates with the DNP. Each pairing takes two applications, filed separately, and the hours depend on whether you enter as an APRN or through Leadership.

Leadership entrants add GRN 8121 through GRN 8124, four 125-hour courses taken singly, each across a 15-week semester. Both routes close with the project courses, and the catalog makes current credentialing a condition of entry for GRN 8121 and GRN 9001 alike.

Licensure table and credentialing notes
WilmU's State Licensures by Program table has rows for MSN Leadership and the DNP but none for the Nursing Leadership certificates on their own. If you live outside Delaware and want to know how your state treats the certificate, ask the Online Learning office, which handles WilmU's state authorization questions. The MSN Leadership row reads Not Determined Yet only for Idaho and Wyoming.
For students outside Delaware, WilmU's state authorization page is the other document to know. WilmU takes part in NC-SARA through Delaware and treats clinical work in other states as part of online learning, bound by the host state's rules. A clinical component done near home in another state falls under that, one more reason to confirm the setting with faculty early.

Can a leadership certificate lead into WilmU's DNP?
Yes. Four leadership certificates, Nurse Executive and Nurse Educator among them, have combined DNP routes: 48 credits and 500 hours for APRNs, or 60 credits and 1,000 hours through Leadership. WilmU asks for two separate applications for each pairing, so plan both on the same timeline.
Can my mentor work at my own hospital?
WilmU's public pages have no rule on mentors who work where you work or who supervise you. Ask your course faculty before you approach anyone, and have a second option ready. We can shortlist mentors inside and outside your organization so either answer keeps you moving.
