Alaska clinicals for Wilmington University nursing students
Wilmington University's State Licensures by Program page lists Alaska as Meets for all seven nursing programs. What makes Alaska different is paperwork in your own name: a WilmU NP student files with Alaska's nursing board for each preceptorship, and that filing depends on a preceptor already being in place.

What WilmU's table says about Alaska
In WilmU's usage, Meets says the program's education satisfies Alaska's licensing requirements. It does not clear any clinical site, and the page shows no update date. Our licensure table page explains the statuses.

Registering your preceptorship in Alaska
Alaska handles visiting APRN students one at a time. Regulation 12 AAC 44.460 is the authority: a nurse enrolled in an APRN program headquartered outside Alaska is registered individually before clinical practice in the state, a step the Board's FAQ places with the student. The filing is yours rather than WilmU's, made on form 08-4253 with a fee that is not returned. Inside the packet:
- a current RN license with good standing, from Alaska or from another state;
- evidence that WilmU currently enrolls you in its APRN program;
- the preceptorship arrangement the Board approves, meaning a copy of the agreement signed by WilmU, the facility, the preceptor and you.
Registration ends after twelve months or when the preceptorship does, if that comes first; one renewal is allowed. WilmU's family track moves through GRN 7121, GRN 7122, GRN 7123 and GRN 7124 in order, so ask the Assistant Chair for your track how that clock fits your sequence.
The Board wants the four-party agreement in the packet, so your Alaska registration waits on a confirmed preceptor.
Who can precept in Alaska
The 08-4253 packet also defines the preceptor: an NP or other APRN, or a physician, holding a license or practice privilege in active, unencumbered status, whose practice focus matches the student's, and who supervises, teaches and evaluates at the bedside or in the clinic. The Delaware Board rule WilmU students usually meet, laid out on our Delaware APRN page, also admits PAs and pharmacists; in Alaska, build the search around NPs and physicians.

Alaska's rules reach WilmU's faculty too: under 12 AAC 44.090(h), a WilmU instructor needs Alaska RN licensure once grading Alaska clinical work, plus any other nursing teaching or consultation there, passes twenty working days in a single license period.

Providence, based in Renton, Washington, runs Providence Alaska Medical Center and is the biggest hospital operator Alaska has. Anchorage's Alaska Native Medical Center belongs to the tribal health system, Alaska Regional Hospital is an HCA Healthcare hospital, Palmer's hospital is Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, and Foundation Health Partners, the Fairbanks group, runs Fairbanks Memorial Hospital as well as Tanana Valley Clinic. Census estimates for 2025 give the Anchorage metro some 406,000 residents, Fairbanks-College close to 94,000 and the Juneau area near 32,000.
Licensing in Alaska, and how we help
Alaska is not a compact state for RNs. Legislation to join, House Bill 131 and Senate Bill 124, is listed by the Board as pending for the 2025-2026 session, and Alaska has passed nothing on the APRN Compact. The Board's registration will take a license from another state, but WilmU wants an RN license belonging to the clinical's state, so confirm with WilmU whether that means an Alaska RN license for you. Is there an Alaska registration step for WilmU NP students?
Yes, one per preceptorship. Alaska's Board registers each APRN student from a program outside the state before clinical practice there, using form 08-4253 and regulation 12 AAC 44.460. The packet needs your RN license, proof of WilmU enrollment and the agreement signed by WilmU, the facility, the preceptor and you, plus a fee the Board does not refund.
Can a PA precept my WilmU FNP course in Alaska?
Alaska's form lists APRNs and physicians whose license or practice privilege is active and carries no encumbrance, in a matching focus. PAs are left off, even though Delaware's rule for APRN program preceptors accepts them, so an Alaska search for a WilmU course should center on nurse practitioners and physicians.
Will a compact RN license cover an Alaska clinical?
No compact membership means no multistate reach into Alaska. For the Board's own registration, a license from your home state is acceptable; WilmU's condition, though, is RN licensure for the state hosting the clinical. Ask WilmU which license it will accept for an Alaska rotation.
What does an RN to BSN student in Alaska need?
Two conditions, per the Alaska Board's FAQ: the program is nationally accredited and approved where it is based, and your RN license, from any U.S. state or territory, is current and unencumbered. WilmU's RN to BSN is marked Meets for Alaska on WilmU's table.
