New Mexico gets Meets Educational Licensing Requirements across the board on WilmU's State Licensures by Program page. The status is WilmU's call on licensure, whether each program's education fits the New Mexico license it leads toward. Where clinicals may happen is a separate matter, and the page names no update date.

The more-than-one-semester rule
The trigger sits in the education part of New Mexico's nursing rules. Once a school's clinical or field placements inside New Mexico stretch past one semester, that school applies to the Board of Nursing for clinical placement approval, and an out-of-state program holding its own board's approval still has to meet New Mexico's baseline standards. The part speaks to programs leading to New Mexico licensure, with no separate word on APRN education.
GRN 7121 through GRN 7124, like the PMHNP sequence GRN 7221 through GRN 7224, run one after another, so a WilmU student finishing all four in New Mexico has clinical time there spanning more than a single semester. Full practice and New Mexico's preceptor standard
On AANP's practice map New Mexico is full practice, so an NP's own license carries the authority to diagnose, treat and prescribe. That puts NP-owned practices on the map for FNP students.
Two tests define a clinical preceptor in New Mexico's rules. Experience means at least two years as a nurse; level means a license matching or exceeding the one the student is training for. Programs approved for New Mexico placement have to meet those minimums. WilmU's home state adds its own lens: the Delaware Board lets APRNs, PAs, pharmacists and physicians precept when their practice mirrors the WilmU student's track. Albuquerque, Santa Fe and beyond
Albuquerque's metro, roughly 925,000 residents in 2025 Census figures, dwarfs the rest. Next come Las Cruces at 229,000, then the Santa Fe metro (close to 157,000) and Farmington (around 120,000). Beyond those four, drives get long.
NP students scanning the state usually meet the same large names: Presbyterian Healthcare Services, Lovelace Health System, and the UNM Health System, which runs New Mexico's lone academic medical center. In Santa Fe, look for CHRISTUS St. Vincent, part of CHRISTUS Health. Community clinics and independent practices round out a New Mexico search, especially around Farmington or Las Cruces.
Licensing and the compact in New Mexico
Since January 19, 2018, a New Mexico RN license can be issued as a multistate license under the Nurse Licensure Compact, and the Board added a separate charge for that multistate version on the first of June 2026. New Mexico sits outside the APRN Compact, so after WilmU your New Mexico APRN license comes through the state's Board of Nursing on its own terms.

WilmU's State Licensures by Program table lists the MSN-FNP as meeting New Mexico's educational licensing requirements, and the same goes for WilmU's two NP certificates, its BSN to DNP and the DNP. The table does not cover clinicals or admission, so confirm your plan with WilmU's Online Learning office before you apply.
Does New Mexico require Board approval for WilmU clinicals?
New Mexico wants Board approval for clinical placement from any school whose in-state clinical or field work runs past one semester. Its text is aimed at programs leading to a New Mexico license and is silent on NP education, so ask WilmU how it treats a New Mexico run of GRN 7121 to GRN 7124.
Who can precept a nursing student under New Mexico's rules?
A New Mexico preceptor has at least two years as a nurse, and a license matching or exceeding the one the student is training for. For a WilmU NP course, faculty also weigh Delaware's rule on comparable practice focus, and they have the last word on each preceptor.
Does New Mexico charge extra for a multistate RN license?
Yes. The Board's multistate compact license has carried its own separate fee since June 1, 2026. Check the Board's site for the current amount before renewing, especially if a WilmU practicum might take you into another compact state.
