Texas guide for Wilmington University NP and DNP students
Texas gets a Meets on every nursing row of Wilmington University's State Licensures by Program table. The Texas Board of Nursing's approval process for out-of-state programs is written for pre-licensure schools, not for WilmU's graduate tracks, so for a Texas student the practical questions are physician involvement, distance and which of four giant metros is home.

What WilmU's table says about Texas
Texas's seven nursing entries on WilmU's State Licensures by Program page all read Meets Educational Licensing Requirements. WilmU is making a licensure determination there, that each program's education fits the Texas license it leads to; the page takes no position on clinical sites and shows no update date.

Texas's out-of-state rule reaches pre-licensure only
For first-license programs, Texas makes visiting schools wait. Out-of-state vocational and RN programs, entry-level master's included, need Texas Board approval before a single clinical day in Texas, SARA or no SARA. The Board's education guideline for them (revised in May 2026) adds a Texas higher education approval first, an 80 percent first-attempt NCLEX pass rate, and an application filed four months out.
For a WilmU NP, PMHNP or DNP student none of that applies: Texas reserves that approval process for pre-licensure programs, leaving graduate APRN study and the post-licensure RN to BSN outside it. Restricted practice and who precepts in Texas
AANP counts Texas among its restricted practice states. Physician delegation and supervision frame a Texas NP's whole career, documented in written protocols, and Schedule II prescribing is confined to certain settings. That keeps physicians close to NP practices across the state, and Delaware's rule for WilmU's APRN program preceptors accepts a physician whose focus matches your track.
Texas writes its own APRN education standards for the programs its Board approves. They let an APRN preceptor, or a different licensed clinician capable of supervising and teaching students, take the role, expect a three-way written agreement among school, preceptor and agency, and usually cap a faculty member at six students in a clinical course. Nationally accredited programs sit outside that Texas approval, and WilmU's graduate nursing programs hold CCNE accreditation, yet the standards still show what a Dallas or Houston clinic will expect to see.
Four giant metros and the systems within them
Texas spreads its NP students across four very large markets. By 2025 Census estimates, Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington is home to about 8.48 million people and Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands to about 7.90 million; San Antonio-New Braunfels (2.81 million) and Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos (2.62 million) follow.

Your RN license and Texas
The Nurse Licensure Compact took effect for Texas nurses on January 19, 2018. WilmU's NP clinical courses call for current CPR and an RN license for the state hosting the experience; see the RN license guide for how a compact privilege fits that. Texas has not enacted the APRN Compact, so APRN licensure after WilmU runs through the Texas Board of Nursing alone.

Will WilmU need the Texas Board's approval before my NP clinicals?
Texas's approval requirement for schools from other states targets programs training vocational nurses and new RNs. Graduate APRN programs such as WilmU's NP tracks, and post-licensure RN to BSN programs, sit outside it. Confirm WilmU's own handling of Texas with its Online Learning office.
Can a Texas physician precept my WilmU FNP practicum?
Delaware's rule for WilmU's APRN program preceptors includes physicians with a practice focus comparable to your track, and Texas's own APRN education standards let any currently licensed health professional able to teach and oversee students serve as well. WilmU faculty have the last word on each Texas preceptor.
Are there incentives for Texas clinicians who precept NP students?
The Texas program on record is a tuition exemption for RN preceptors who teach in Texas's public pre-licensure nursing programs, which does not reach NP preceptors. Texas's shortage-reduction grants go to Texas nursing programs themselves, not to individual preceptors.
Can I do WilmU's PMHNP Graduate Certificate from Houston?
WilmU's State Licensures by Program table lists the post-master's PMHNP as meeting Texas's educational licensing requirements, as are the MSN-FNP, the post-master's FNP, the BSN to DNP and the DNP. The table covers licensure, so check your clinical plans with WilmU's Online Learning office before applying.
