WilmU nursing accreditation: what CCNE and COA cover
Wilmington University's accreditation page names two national accreditors for nursing: CCNE, which covers four program levels from the BSN through the DNP and the post-graduate APRN certificates, and COA, which covers the DNP in Nurse Anesthesiology. The anesthesiology program carries a published conflict, and a few WilmU documents name things differently, so this page sets out what each source says and who can confirm it.

What WilmU's accreditation page lists
WilmU's nursing college keeps its accreditation on a single page. Four program levels there carry accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE): baccalaureate, master's, doctoral (the DNP) and the post-graduate APRN certificates. One program, the DNP in Nurse Anesthesiology, is listed under COA, the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
The page gives no accreditation dates or terms for either body. If a date matters to you, say for an employer form, a scholarship application or a state board file, ask your program chair (NP or DNP) or look the program up in the accreditor's own records.
Accreditation is a national review of a program's quality. It is not the same thing as Delaware Board of Nursing approval, which WilmU's pages do not state, and it is separate from WilmU's state-by-state licensure table, covered further down.
Which WilmU programs fall under each accreditor
Matching WilmU's current program list against the levels on the accreditation page gives the picture below. Where the page's wording leaves a program unclear, the last column says so.

Combined routes, such as a graduate certificate plus the DNP or the DNP + MBA, are built from these same programs. Ask the DNP Program Chair how each part of a combined plan is covered if a form asks you to state it.
The Nurse Anesthesiology conflict
Three WilmU sources say COA accredits the Nurse Anesthesiology DNP, WilmU's joint program with ChristianaCare: the program overview, the accreditation page and a WilmU news item dated November 19, 2025, announcing national accreditation for Delaware's first DNP in Nurse Anesthesiology.
The program's curriculum page still carries an older footnote. It describes the program as in Capability Review and says no students can enroll until initial accreditation is granted. The dated news item and the accreditation page are the later statements, but only the program itself can confirm its status today.
If you are applying, ask the program's Director before you commit. WilmU lists the application window for the 2028 cohort as opening January 4, 2027. It is also the only WilmU nursing program with a public list of clinical sites; our Nurse Anesthesiology DNP page covers them.
Quote the accreditation page, not the curriculum footnote or the DNP packet, when a form asks for WilmU's accreditation.
Other places WilmU's documents disagree
Worth knowing before you cite a WilmU document
- The DNP application packet, which carries no date, expands CCNE as the Council for Certification of Nursing Education. The accreditation page names the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
- According to the same packet, the DNP was granted five years, the longest CCNE term a new program could receive. Because the packet is undated, nobody reading it can tell when that term began or ends.
- The packet still refers to the College of Health Professions, while WilmU's pages and the 2026-27 graduate catalog use the College's current name.
- WilmU's pages do not state Delaware Board of Nursing approval for its nursing programs. If a form asks for it, ask the NP Program Chair or check with the Board through the Division of Professional Regulation.
None of these changes what the accreditation page itself says. They matter when you copy wording onto an application, an employer credentialing form or a letter to a prospective preceptor, where a mismatched name invites a follow-up question.
Accreditation, authorization and licensure status are separate
Three WilmU statements are easy to blur together, and each answers a different question.
- Accreditation (CCNE, COA): a national review of the program's quality. It reads the same wherever you live.
- State authorization (NC-SARA): WilmU participates in NC-SARA with Delaware's approval. Its definition of online learning takes in field experiences beyond Delaware's borders, and it commits to following each state's rules for them.
- Licensure status (State Licensures by Program): WilmU's own table rates every program in every state with one of three labels, Meets, Not Determined Yet or Does not meet. For the MSN-FNP and the two post-master's NP certificates, seven states are still undetermined, New York and Tennessee among them.
A fully accredited program can still be undetermined for licensure in a given state. Check the licensure table by program, and read NC-SARA and out-of-state clinicals if you train outside Delaware. WilmU's catalog also sends anyone seeking licensure in another state to NC-SARA's Professional Licensure Directory.
Why accreditation matters when you apply for your APRN license
Delaware's Board of Nursing rules call for graduation from a graduate or post-graduate APRN program that holds accreditation. The program must include three separate core courses, advanced pathophysiology, health assessment and pharmacology, along with your role and population focus, and the school sends your official transcript to the Board.
National certification comes next. WilmU names ANCC and AANPCB as the FNP certifying routes for the MSN-FNP and the FNP Graduate Certificate, the same two bodies for PMHNP certification after the PMHNP Graduate Certificate, and the National Certification Exam for Nurse Anesthesiology graduates.

How accreditation shows up in your placement
Preceptors and sites weigh practical questions before they take a student: which school, which course, how many hours, and who carries responsibility for evaluation, which Delaware's rules leave with faculty. Questions WilmU students ask
Is Wilmington University's FNP program accredited?
Yes. The MSN-FNP sits at the master's level and the FNP Graduate Certificate at the post-graduate APRN certificate level, and WilmU's accreditation page lists CCNE for both levels. The page gives no accreditation dates. Delaware's APRN license requires graduation from an accredited program, and WilmU points graduates of both toward FNP certification with ANCC or AANPCB.
Is WilmU's nurse anesthesia program accredited?
Per WilmU's accreditation page, its program overview and a news post from November 2025, the Nurse Anesthesiology DNP holds COA accreditation. An older footnote on the curriculum page still says the program is pursuing initial accreditation and cannot enroll students until it is granted. Ask the program's Director which statement is current before you apply.
Does CCNE accreditation cover the PMHNP Graduate Certificate?
WilmU's accreditation page lists post-graduate APRN certificate programs under CCNE, and the PMHNP Graduate Certificate is one of WilmU's two APRN certificates, alongside the FNP. It runs 750 clinical hours across GRN 7221 to GRN 7224. The page lists no dates, so check with the PMHNP program's Assistant Chair if a form needs them.
Is WilmU's nursing program approved by the Delaware Board of Nursing?
WilmU's own pages do not state Delaware Board of Nursing approval. They list national accreditation by CCNE and, for Nurse Anesthesiology, by COA. If an employer, a licensing board or a certification body asks for Board approval specifically, ask the NP Program Chair or contact the Delaware Board of Nursing through the Division of Professional Regulation.
Can I get licensed in any state because WilmU is accredited?
No. Accreditation is one national review, while each state sets its own licensing requirements. WilmU's State Licensures by Program table marks where each program meets them, and several states are still undetermined for the NP programs. WilmU's catalog advises checking your state's requirements before applying and using NC-SARA's Professional Licensure Directory.
