WilmU nursing students in Kentucky: the KBN's rules, licenses and clinicals
All of Wilmington University's nursing programs read Meets for Kentucky on its State Licensures by Program page. The Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) approves no schools from other states; its attention goes to licenses, and one rule stands out: in Kentucky, a preceptor for an online MSN or DNP student carries a Kentucky APRN license.

Kentucky on WilmU's licensure table
Kentucky's entry is Meets Educational Licensing Requirements in every nursing row, from the MSN-FNP and the two NP graduate certificates to the DNP, BSN to DNP, MSN Leadership and the RN to BSN. That finding is about the education behind a Kentucky license, not about any particular clinical site, and the page shows no date.
Applicants headed for licensure beyond Delaware are pointed by WilmU's NP pages to that state's rules, with NC-SARA's Professional Licensure Directory as a second check. What the KBN says about out-of-state programs
The KBN's overview puts it plainly: out-of-state programs are neither approved by the KBN nor required to be, even a school whose sole Kentucky footprint is students at clinical sites. The KBN's approval work covers prelicensure programs born in Kentucky, and the RN to BSN is not KBN territory at all.
KRS 314.101, which the Board cites, exempts a nurse licensed elsewhere who completes a Kentucky clinical rotation, provided the school is in SARA or is licensed by Kentucky's Council on Postsecondary Education. WilmU takes part in NC-SARA, approved by Delaware, yet WilmU's own license condition for clinicals stays in force, so get the NP Program Chair's view before leaning on the exemption. Who can precept a WilmU student in Kentucky
Kentucky is specific about the licenses held by the people supervising you, and those expectations sit on top of WilmU faculty approval.

Delaware's preceptor standard for APRN programs also admits PAs, pharmacists and physicians in a comparable focus; how that squares with Kentucky's APRN expectation is a question for your course faculty. AANP (the American Association of Nurse Practitioners) rates Kentucky reduced practice: prescribing rests on two physician agreements, for controlled and non-controlled substances, absent a Board exemption, and newly licensed NPs meet practice-setting conditions in year one.
Louisville, Lexington, Northern Kentucky and Bowling Green
The Louisville/Jefferson County metro spills into Indiana and counts about 1.1 million on its Kentucky side. Lexington-Fayette is next, some 475,000 Kentuckians belong to the Cincinnati metro on the south bank of the Ohio River, and Bowling Green anchors the south. Among the large systems: Norton Healthcare, UofL Health, St. Elizabeth Healthcare, UK HealthCare (the University of Kentucky's) and Baptist Health, whose footprint runs from Kentucky into southern Indiana.
No system on that list promises anyone a seat, since each runs its own student intake. A practice on the far bank in Ohio or Indiana is regulated by that state's board, not the KBN.
Your license for Kentucky clinicals
Kentucky's membership in the current compact runs from January 19, 2018. WilmU's clinical rule of RN licensure in the host state, plus current CPR, therefore points to a Kentucky RN license, or a multistate one if your home state is in the compact. Questions WilmU students ask
Is KBN approval needed before WilmU students train in Kentucky?
No. The KBN says it has no approval role over schools from other states, even for Kentucky clinical placements; the Board regulates prelicensure programs that start in Kentucky. WilmU's own field-experience commitments still apply, so run the plan past the Online Learning office before you commit to a site.
Can a preceptor licensed in Indiana or Ohio supervise me at a Kentucky site?
At a Kentucky site, the KBN expects preceptors of online MSN and DNP APRN students to carry a Kentucky APRN license, plus Kentucky RN licensure unless they live in a compact state. An APRN license from Indiana or Ohio on its own falls short of that. If a cross-border practice looks like your best option, ask your course faculty.
Does the KRS 314.101 exemption replace my RN license?
Kentucky cites that statute to exempt nurses from elsewhere during a clinical rotation run by a SARA institution, and WilmU is an NC-SARA participant. WilmU's NP pages still require RN licensure in the clinical's state, so treat the exemption as Kentucky's rule rather than WilmU's, and get the NP Program Chair's answer in writing.
Does WilmU's BSN to DNP meet Kentucky's requirements?
Yes: BSN to DNP, like every WilmU nursing program, reads Meets for Kentucky. Because the program runs the NP practicums before the DNP Project, you will meet both the KBN's preceptor license expectation and WilmU's doctorally prepared DNP preceptor. BSN to DNP students get joint advising from the NP Program Chair and the DNP Program Chair.
