Missouri and Wilmington University: collaborative practice and two border metros

Missouri honors compact licenses and keeps its NPs in career-long collaborative arrangements with physicians, and its two biggest metros spill into Illinois and Kansas, states with very different license rules.

What WilmU lists for Missouri
Missouri's seven entries read Meets Educational Licensing Requirements, top to bottom. WilmU uses the table for licensure disclosures: it answers whether each program's education can lead to a Missouri license, shows no update date, and leaves clinical placement to other rules.

Collaborative practice shapes who precepts
AANP places Missouri in its restricted tier. A Missouri NP never outgrows the physician link: the collaborative practice arrangement runs for an entire career and comes packaged with caps on ratios, duties to review charts and limits on controlled substances.
Walk into a Missouri family practice for GRN 7123, then, and you meet a team: the NP who teaches you and a collaborating physician behind the arrangement. Both can fit Delaware's rule for APRN program preceptors when their focus is comparable to your course, which widens a Missouri search. Missouri's Board and schools from other states
Chapter 2 of the Board's rules (20 CSR 2200-2) governs the nursing programs Missouri's Board has approved. RSMo 335.081(6)(a) spares supervised students of approved nursing schools from Missouri licensure, yet it never says whether a Delaware school counts as approved for that purpose. Neither text lays out an approval or notice filing for WilmU students training in Missouri.
Two checks remain on WilmU's side: the Online Learning office, which handles state authorization, and any contract a Missouri system wants with WilmU before a student arrives; our affiliation agreements page covers those.
St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield and Columbia
On the Missouri side, greater St. Louis holds about 2.14 million people and greater Kansas City about 1.33 million, going by 2025 Census Bureau estimates, with Springfield and Columbia next. SSM Health, CoxHealth, MU Health Care, Mercy and BJC HealthCare are the systems NP students weigh, each with its own intake, plus independent practices.
Crossing a state line changes the license. Take a practicum in the Metro East and you need an Illinois license, because Illinois sits outside the compact (Illinois guide). Cross into Kansas City, Kansas instead and your multistate license still works (Kansas guide).
Licensing for Missouri clinicals
Current CPR and a registered nurse license good in Missouri come before any clinical there, per WilmU's NP pages. Missouri's compact statute, RSMo 335.360, took effect in July 2017 and the compact went live on January 19, 2018; ever since, a Delaware multistate license, like any compact state's, has reached Missouri patients. Questions WilmU students ask
Is there a Missouri tax credit for my NP preceptor?
No. Missouri's credit, RSMo 135.690, is for doctors and PAs licensed in Missouri who precept Missouri medical or PA students unpaid, in primary care rotations. NPs are outside it, and so are nursing students of any school, WilmU's included, so there is nothing to claim.
Can I take the WilmU PMHNP certificate from Missouri?
WilmU's table marks the post-master's PMHNP Meets Educational Licensing Requirements for Missouri. For the practicums, GRN 7221 through GRN 7224, you train on RN licensure valid in Missouri, which a compact license supplies. Confirm plans with the Assistant Chair for the PMHNP program before you apply.
My St. Louis practice is on the Illinois side. What changes?
The license. Your Missouri or Delaware multistate license stops at the Mississippi because Illinois has not joined the compact, and Illinois has its own rule listing documents a school from another state files before clinical placement. Clear both with WilmU before committing.
Will I work under a collaborative arrangement after graduating in Missouri?
If you practice as an NP in Missouri, yes. AANP calls Missouri's physician collaboration requirement career-long, and it brings ratio, chart-review and prescribing constraints with it. Check the Missouri State Board of Nursing for the current rules before you plan your first job.
