South Carolina clinicals for Wilmington University students
South Carolina gets a Meets for all seven nursing programs in Wilmington University's State Licensures by Program listing. The state's rule for visiting programs, R.91-6, is written for students heading toward a first license, and its preceptor tax credit is tied to South Carolina schools, two facts worth knowing before a WilmU search starts there.

What WilmU's table says about South Carolina
For WilmU, Meets signals that a program's coursework and clinical training line up with what South Carolina needs from a licensure applicant. Where you may hold clinicals is a different matter, and the table gives no revision date. The licensure table page covers how to read it.

R.91-6 and graduate students from Delaware
R.91-6 is the Board of Nursing's rule for schools headquartered outside South Carolina, and its target is pre-licensure teaching. When such a school's South Carolina clinicals lead toward a first nursing license, the Board signs off in advance, the school keeps full approval in its home state, its faculty supervise on site and on shift while licensed in South Carolina or in some other compact state, a signed agreement with each facility is in place, and any precepted portion follows South Carolina's own rules.
Graduate NP education is outside that text. The regulation does not address APRN programs, or RN to BSN study, which is where WilmU's FNP, PMHNP and DNP students sit. Practice agreements and the preceptor tax credit
AANP's map shows South Carolina as restricted. NPs there carry out delegated acts through a physician practice agreement, and their controlled-substance prescriptions come with supply caps. A Greenville or Columbia NP who precepts you works inside that framework daily.
The state also offers unpaid preceptors an income tax break. Section 12-6-3800 of the South Carolina Code gives physicians, APRNs and PAs who pass its Medicaid and rotation tests a credit, and a 2024 act carried it through tax year 2029. The catch for WilmU students is the enrollment test: only rotations for students of the state's own public and independent colleges count, so hosting a WilmU student earns the preceptor nothing under it.

Where NP students look in South Carolina
Prisma Health is among the state's largest systems, as is MUSC Health, the Medical University's health system. Roper St. Francis Healthcare, McLeod Health and Lexington Health, which runs Lexington Medical Center, complete a list of five. Each writes its own student terms.
In the 2025 Census estimates, Greenville-Anderson-Greer passes one million residents, while Charleston-North Charleston counts roughly 889,000 people and the Columbia metro roughly 880,000. The Charlotte metro reaches into South Carolina as well, with roughly 454,000 of its people on the southern side, where a practice just into North Carolina means a different licensing state.

Does R.91-6 apply to WilmU NP students in South Carolina?
Its terms are built for out-of-state programs preparing students for a first license; APRN and RN to BSN programs are not addressed. WilmU's FNP and PMHNP students are licensed RNs already. Ask WilmU's Online Learning office whether South Carolina expects anything from WilmU for your site.
Will a preceptor in South Carolina get a tax credit for teaching me?
No. The credit in section 12-6-3800 counts a rotation only when the student attends one of the state's public or independent institutions, so a clinician who precepts a student from a Delaware program cannot claim it for that rotation. WilmU publishes nothing on preceptor benefits.
Can I do my WilmU PMHNP clinicals in Charleston?
South Carolina's post-master's PMHNP entry reads Meets, and under WilmU's rule a Charleston clinical would need an RN license valid in South Carolina. The four psychiatric practicums, GRN 7221 to GRN 7224, each need a preceptor in a comparable focus. Confirm your plan with the Assistant Chair for the PMHNP program.
Is a South Carolina NP preceptor limited by the state's practice agreement rules?
The practice agreement governs how a South Carolina NP practices, including delegated acts and controlled-substance supply limits, rather than whether that NP can teach. The Delaware Board's preceptor rule, the one WilmU students meet, counts a South Carolina NP in good standing with a comparable focus.
