What WilmU's table says about Colorado
Every Colorado row reads Meets Educational Licensing Requirements. The determination asks whether a WilmU program's education satisfies Colorado's licensing standards. It tells you nothing about where a practicum can run, and nothing on the page says when it was last revised.

Colorado's Board and programs based elsewhere
Colorado's nursing board answers to the Department of Regulatory Agencies. Its program-approval language, Rule 1.2 in chapter 716-1 of the Colorado Code of Regulations, is written around basic preparation for initial RN and LPN licensure. It contains no filing or approval requirement for tracks like WilmU's RN to BSN, NP or DNP when a licensed nurse trains in Colorado.
Two checks remain. WilmU's state authorization page commits the university to honoring other states' field-experience rules, so Online Learning can confirm nothing new applies. A hospital or clinic may also want a written agreement with WilmU before you start, which our page on clinical affiliation agreements explains.
Full practice, a mentoring step and who precepts
AANP rates Colorado full practice, with a catch for new graduates who want to prescribe: they attest to 750 hours of mentored practice, with a physician or APRN as mentor under a signed agreement. Factor that in if Colorado is where you intend to work once you finish at WilmU.
For the practicum itself, the pool is wide. We match to the preceptor rule in Delaware's Board regulations: clinicians licensed without restriction as APRNs, PAs, pharmacists or physicians, practicing in a focus comparable to the student's. In Colorado that means family NPs and family physicians for the FNP sequence, and psychiatric NPs or psychiatrists from GRN 7221 onward.
A Colorado tax break for unpaid preceptors in rural and frontier areas covers advanced practice nurses too. Since HB22-1005, though, it applies only when the student attends an accredited Colorado school, so a WilmU student seems to fall outside it.
Metros and health systems where NP students look
Four metros lead Colorado's population. The 2025 Census Bureau count put Denver-Aurora-Centennial near 3.09 million; Colorado Springs comes second, then Greeley and Fort Collins-Loveland at nearly equal size. A site within an easy drive matters when four practicums run back to back.
Denver Health, UCHealth, HCA HealthONE, Intermountain Health (Saint Joseph Hospital, Denver) and the Colorado hospitals of CommonSpirit Health are the big systems there. Each sets its own terms for student rotations, so we check them one at a time and weigh them against independent family, psychiatric and community practices.
Your license for a Colorado practicum
WilmU's NP pages call for current CPR and RN licensure for the state where each clinical experience happens. The compact has covered Colorado since January 19, 2018, which means a Delaware multistate license, or one from any other compact state, already reaches Colorado patients. A license valid in one state only, issued outside the compact, means applying to the Colorado Board first; our RN license rule page walks through it.
Do not count on the APRN Compact for an NP license later. Only five states have passed it, Colorado has not, and it stays dormant until seven have signed on.

The table speaks to licensure, not admission or clinical placement, so check your Colorado plans with the NP Program Chair, and with Online Learning on state authorization, ahead of applying.
Is my Colorado preceptor eligible for the state's rural preceptor credit?
Probably not. The 2022 change in HB22-1005 tied eligibility to students at accredited Colorado institutions, and WilmU is in New Castle, Delaware. A preceptor weighing the credit should read the Colorado Department of Revenue's page first.
Can a family physician in Colorado precept my WilmU FNP practicum?
Delaware's Board rules list physicians with an active, unencumbered license in a comparable practice focus among acceptable APRN program preceptors, so a Colorado family physician can fit. Your faculty approve or decline each preceptor, and the program handbook and NP Program Chair cover anything beyond the Board's rule.
Does the Colorado Board need to hear from WilmU before my clinicals?
Colorado's program-approval rule targets pre-licensure schools and contains no filing or notice for graduate programs from other states. State authorization is Online Learning's territory at WilmU, so ask it to confirm for your site, and ask the site whether it wants an agreement with WilmU.
