WilmU nursing students in Massachusetts: licenses, Board rules and clinicals
On Wilmington University's licensure-by-program table, Massachusetts reads Meets for all seven nursing programs. The catch is the RN license. The Nurse Licensure Compact became state law in November 2024, but putting it into operation is a separate step, still unfinished, so for now a multistate license issued by Delaware, or by any other compact state, does not reach a Massachusetts clinical.

What WilmU's table says for Massachusetts
WilmU's Massachusetts entries are Meets Educational Licensing Requirements for the DNP and BSN to DNP, the MSN-FNP and its two post-master's companions (FNP and PMHNP), MSN Leadership and the RN to BSN. They describe the education behind a Massachusetts license, not where a clinical may take place, and the page is undated.
Before applying, future Massachusetts licensees are sent by WilmU's NP pages to the state's own requirements, with NC-SARA's Professional Licensure Directory alongside. Massachusetts rules for out-of-state programs
Massachusetts regulation 244 CMR 6.03(2) requires Board of Registration in Nursing approval for didactic or clinical learning in the state by any nursing program whose parent institution is headquartered outside Massachusetts. The approval runs in two parts.

The criteria speak of programs preparing graduates to take the NCLEX, and the Board's page never mentions graduate APRN programs, so WilmU's Online Learning office is the place to ask whether the process covers your practicum. The regulation also caps ratios: one faculty member per ten students, one preceptor per two. If the Massachusetts process applies, a placement confirmed three weeks before term misses the 30-day window.
Full practice and Massachusetts preceptors
Massachusetts NPs reach full practice, by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners' measure, once they finish two supervised years with a qualifying physician or APRN; equivalent experience may earn an exemption. Seasoned NPs practice on their own, while newer ones are still supervised.
For WilmU's APRN programs, the Delaware Board looks for a preceptor whose APRN, physician, PA or pharmacist license is active, unencumbered, comparable in focus and valid where the precepting happens, which for a Massachusetts site means a Massachusetts license. Boston, Worcester, Springfield and the border metros
The Boston-Cambridge-Newton metro holds around 4.6 million Massachusetts residents and crosses into New Hampshire. Worcester, Springfield and the Massachusetts share of the Providence-Warwick metro follow. Among the large systems are Beth Israel Lahey Health, UMass Memorial Health, Mass General Brigham, Baystate Health and the Boston Medical Center Health System, and each one decides which schools' students it hosts.
A New Hampshire practice sits in a state where WilmU's table shows the NP programs and BSN to DNP as Not Determined Yet (see the New Hampshire guide), and a site in Providence falls under Rhode Island.
Your RN license for Massachusetts clinicals
Until implementation is complete, the Massachusetts Board says, the compact has no effect. The target is May 2027, and a conditional approval covering FBI background checks arrived in May 2026. Meanwhile nurses apply through the usual Massachusetts process, and an out-of-state multistate license brings no practice privilege there. Can I do WilmU clinicals in Massachusetts on my Delaware multistate license?
Not yet. The compact passed in Massachusetts in November 2024, yet the Board counts it as in effect only once implementation is done, and May 2027 is the goal. Until that date arrives, plan on a Massachusetts RN license, because a Delaware multistate license does not carry across the state line.
Does WilmU file with the Massachusetts Board before my clinical?
Programs based outside Massachusetts seek the Board's approval under 244 CMR 6.03(2), filing Part A six months or more ahead and Part B no later than 30 days before each placement. The Board wrote its criteria for programs that prepare NCLEX candidates, so ask WilmU's Online Learning office whether the process reaches your NP or DNP course.
How many students can one Massachusetts preceptor supervise?
Under 244 CMR 6.03, each preceptor is capped at two students and each faculty member at ten. WilmU's public pages name no NP ratio, so if your preceptor already hosts someone, check with the Assistant Chair for your track before you commit.
Does WilmU's PMHNP certificate meet Massachusetts requirements?
Yes. The post-master's PMHNP reads Meets for Massachusetts on WilmU's table, as does every other WilmU nursing program. PMHNP practicums pair with didactic courses, so a Massachusetts psychiatric preceptor has to suit that sequence as well as the license rules; the PMHNP practicums page lays it out.
